Apuan Alps Park
The natural park was established in 1985, a true naturalistic jewel of Tuscany, it owes its name to the splendid mountain range with Alpine characteristics, which it embraces.
It is a territorial area rich in water, suggestive and wild with important naturalistic and historical destinations, among which it is worth mentioning the two fascinating complexes of karst caves that can be visited and the numerous medieval villages with ancient churches, sanctuaries and hermitages as well as very well preserved fortifications.
The park is crossed by 2 mountain passes that, in less than an hour 's drive, incredibly unite the blue of the sea in Versilia with the intense green of the Garfagnana!
The Apuan Alps Park extends " astride " two provinces in upper Tuscany, Lucca on the inland side and Massa Carrara on the seaside side.
As regards Garfagnana, the municipalities included in the park are:
Minucciano, Camporgiano, Vagli Sotto, Careggine, the main town: Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Molazzana, Factories of Vergemoli and Gallicano.
